Scotty's Dive Center: A World of its Own

It was in the middle of a typical Cebu heat wave when the Cebu Diver team, headed by Rod Anthony Arriola, strolled through the beautiful expanse of Shangri-la Mactan Resort to check out Scotty’s Dive Center.

We had little time to spare on the sheer elegance of our surroundings – from its sprawling sophistication, to its architectural perfection, to the opulence of every detail – as we distractedly leaped from one shaded area to another, desperate to escape the sun and frantic to reach our destination.

Finally, after what seemed like a scorching eternity, the dive center – Scotty’s, as most of you know it – loomed into view.

As we eased past colorful billboards touting the PADI logo, we had a surreal sense of stepping into another world.

Not a world less magnificent than the one we had just left behind, no. Not a world with less luxury, less elegance, less beauty. But rather, a world that, in sharp contrast to the tranquil grace of its surroundings, vibrated with an almost tangible sense of electricity. It was a charged environment, one inhabited by adventure, excitement, and exuberance. This was the world of Scotty’s.

With PADI instructor Bernil Gastardo giving us the grand tour, we ogled at Scotty’s impressive array of gears, gawked at the striking buccaneer sculpture that adorned the dive shop, and literally salivated over the gorgeous luxury dive boats in one of the outposts.

And as the entire world of Scotty’s Dive Center unfolded before our eyes, we finally understood why, of all the dive centers in Cebu, Scotty’s has always been the best.
