Scuba World – with multiple dive shops in Makati, BF Homes, San Juan, Puerto Galera, Bohol, Boracay, and Cebu, among others – is the largest provider of dive programs, facilities, and equipment in the Philippines today.
John Melendres, Regional Manager of Scuba World Visayas, sheds some light on the dive center’s illustrious 14-year history: “Scuba World started by selling dive equipment, then eventually ventured into dive education and dive operations including live-aboard operations for Tubbataha and Palau.”
“With all these ventures that we have, we cater to almost any diver’s need – from dive education, selection of dive gear and dive travel. It’s a one-stop shop, and that is a very big plus for anyone who visits us,” Melendres enthuses.
Scuba World Punta Engaño (Mactan/Lapu Lapu City), in particular, is a PADI 5-star IDC (Instructor Development Course) facility, one of the very few in the Philippines given that rating by PADI. The facility features a large swimming pool for beginner lessons, dive boats for rent, luxurious suites for overnight stays, easy access to gear and dive equipment, plus a general air of warm camaraderie among its divers and staff.
“Here at Scuba World Punta Engaño, we are one big barkada,” says Operation Supervisor Mikee Arnibal. “We love our jobs, and it translates to how well we treat our guests. We love diving, and we are always eager to share our passion with every new individual that walks through the door.”
“We train not only basic PADI courses, but even instructor level courses. You can just imagine the standards that we follow. And because of that, we are very proud to say that our students really get the best education they can get their hands on,” Regional Manager John Melendres adds.
Rod Anthony Arriola, a frequent Scuba World guest, has high praises for the level of service. “I always look forward to spending my weekends in Punta Engaño. Everyone’s just so friendly and accommodating, the facilities so great, that you want to keep going back for more.”
"At home ka sa kanila. Parang kapamilya,” adds Irving Guazon, another Punta Engaño regular.
Meanwhile, newbie diver Mark Ladanan shares, “My first dive was at Scuba World Punta Engaño, and I couldn’t be any happier with the quality of service and the superb facilities. It was a great experience for me, and I’m very grateful to Scuba World for indulging me in my new, wonderful addiction.”
John, however, demurs from comparing Scuba World with other dive shops in the country. Instead, he humbly says, “I suggest you visit us and you be the judge.”
